ABSTRACT
The
study examined the effect of television cartoon network on the aggressive
behaviour of school going children using Empaa Nursery and primary school,
Ejigbo as a case study. Findings show that exposure to aggressive television
cartoons have increased children aggressiveness and violence behaviour. The
uses and gratification theory have provided ready explanation of why the youths
highly associated with the medium which provide them with message and images
that they view and accept. Aggressive television cartoons without doubt is a
tool of changing the way and manner in which youth behave and act in society
especially within their peer group. Apart from the fact that television
educates, socialize and entertain youth, it also affects children in a negative
way. Through various television programmes many foreign content are transmitted
to the people which is influencing youth mode of dressing, speaking, attitude
most especially their aggressive behaviour. The research use survey research
method coupled with questionnaire in eliciting the opinions of the school going
children.
