ABSTRACT
This study
examines the impact of computer on the practice of journalism – a case study of
journalists in Osun State. The impact of computer on the practice of journalism
which actually spelled doom for the performance of journalists was critically
examined in carrying out this research. This study unfolds various experts’
views about the impact of computer on the practice of journalism and gives some
recommendations as to the use of computer in journalism. Moreover, in carrying
out this study, Quantitative research design was
used in which cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data
collection instrument was questionnaire. The
analyzed data, however was based on the research questions asked in the
questionnaire. Therefore, this study will assist potential journalists in
foreseeing and solving the problems he/she may encounter in their field.
Finally, this research work will be useful and be of assistance to academicians
and journalists of many media houses. In conclusion, computerization in
Nigeria has a lot of prospects. However, more attention needs to be given to
its social implication. Concerted efforts are required by media houses, business
organization, professional associations and the government in formulating
appropriate policies and strategies for optimizing the benefits. Finally,
recommendations are; there is need to consider the social implication of
computerization in Nigeria as the country is now in the threshold of
computerization. There is a need to improve infrastructural facilities in order
to encourage the spread of computerization. There is need to the skills of
journalists in order to encourage the spread of computerization.
