ABSTRACT
The
study examined the impact of television news on students of Osun State
Polytechnic, Iree with the view to know the extent which television news has
contributed to educational development of students. There is no doubt about the
fact that television news is influential than news from any other sources the
reason being that television has the ability to transmit news in audiovisual
while any information receive by the public cannot easily be gotten because
they see the situation and hear it as well. In short television brings the
people closer to the scene of event. Students should spend their time on what
can add values to them as students rather than watching drama and immoral sex
films. Students should always pay attention to news programme as it provide
them regular information on various issues which can form part of their
academics as many lecturers to bring test the level of students awareness to
issue around them through impromptu test even during examinations. However, the
researcher employed survey method and questionnaire to elicit responses from
the selected respondents.
