ABSTRACT
The research examined
the role of community relations on the corporate image of SPDC. It is observed
that one of the most effective ways of ensuring good relationship with the host
community in which any corporate organization situates is through community
relations and for business organization to strongly remain afloat they should
understand that a well articulated policy on community relations is mutually
beneficial to a great necessity for a peaceful coexistence between the host
community and the organization. Quantitative research design was used in which
cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data collection instrument
was questionnaire.
Findings have shown that the level of
environmental degradation that the host community is subjected to, can not be
equated with their performance in community relations programmes, their
community relations projects have to be commensurate with the gains they make
in their oil exploration. It is recommended that Gas flaring and oil spillage
are the ways through which the environment can be polluted. SPDC should put in
place infrastructures to curb the frequent gas and other emission to reduce or
completely eradicate health hazard posed by this environmental pollution.
