ABSTRACT
The research assesses Reality TV Show on
Broadcasting Station” (A case study of African Independent Television). Obviously,
most of the reality shows like “Big Brother Africa”, “Who wants to be a
Millionaire” etc influence the action, reaction and behaviours of the viewers.
It helps the viewers to use it to mould their real life activities. Although,
it is argued that some of the reality show at time send wrong signals to the
viewers especially the adolescent if the programme involves lots of drug,
illicit sex, violence and others. The research is quantitative in nature while
cross sectional survey research method was adopted. Data were collected using
questionnaire. Reality shows increase the attention paid to the messages and
the extent to which they flow in. The findings of this study supported the prior
research done. Also, the effects of reality television are much more than regular
television programming. It is recommended that television planners should be
careful in writing programmes that can derail youth moral value rather invest
in programme capable of building better future.
