ABSTRACT
The various havoc being wreck by the
fulani herdsmen against farmers in west Africa sub region has assumed a
dramatic proportion over the years. In Nigeria, the extent of various
attacks is mind boggling, ranging from destruction of harvested farm
produce to maiming and killing of farmers under little provocation. At
first, the public outcry against the menace was very poor and low, but
suddenly, discussions on the atrocities being perpetrated began to
emerge as subject of national discuss. What follow was condemnations and
serious govt attention. Therefore, the study examined roles played by
media to have warranted high level condemnation trailing the activities
of the herdsmen with a view to ascertaining the agenda setting
capability of media in Nigeria. Survey research method was employed and
it was deduced that media was the unseen hand that facilitated the
public outcry. Triangulation of Qualitative (In-depth Interview) and
Quantitative (Questionnaire) method were adopted to add depth to the
study . Respondents were purposively selected for this study from Ede
and Ojo Town (Osun State), Ogbomosho, Igbeti, Kishi and Ilero (Oyo
State) and another from Giza and some communities in Agatu local
government area (Benue State) to holistically cover substantial
