ABSTRACT
This study seeks to analyze the role of mass media
in crusade against terrorism especially in Nigeria with the insurgence of Boko
Haram, an Islamic terrorist group that has since been a threat to national
security. The study became essential because of the atmosphere in which the
Nigerian media found itself as a watchdog caught in the midst of political and
religious divide. The study used survey method, while 100 copies of questionnaires
were distributed of which 95 were retrieved. The study was divided into five
chapters. Chapter one, begins with introduction and background of the study. In
chapter two related literature on the topic were reviewed. The research adopted
the “survey” method, which guided it to its logical selection of respondents
who drawn using simple random sampling among the staff of NTA channel 5 Ikeja.
The collected data were analysed and interpretations in table using frequency
and percentage method. The research
recommends that journalists should as a matter of national security not write
or broadcast unguided utterances of security agents with regards to logistical
plans to root out criminals and terrorists from our civilized society.
