ABSTRACT
The use of colour separation in magazine and
newspaper production draw the attention of the readers to some important
stories apart from adding aesthetic quality to the magazine and newspaper
pages, it also, helps to set mood and
brands. The paper therefore examines the impact of colour separation on
magazine readers with a study of Tell magazine readers in Lagos. The research is justified by the Activation
Theory of Information Exposure which stated that an individual will seek to
satisfy their need for stimulation and information when attending to a message,
before they seek to fulfill their need for information alone. The study
employed the use of survey method alongside the use of questionnaire to elicit
data from one hundred (100) respondents that were accidentally picked among the
readers. The data collected were analysised and interpreted using frequency and
percentage table. Finding show that colour beautify magazine lots and drawn
attention appropriately . it is recommended that magazine page planner and
designer should learning better colour combination to add aesthetic value to
the pages while it is also imperative to organize seminar and training from
time to time for magazine and newspapers designers to ensure that magazine and
newspaper are better design.
