agitation for gender equality has been an effort towards liberating women from
oppression, subordination, marginalization and devaluation, which were
inflicted on them through legal statutes, cultural practices, religion and
brutish physical forces by men including their husbands, their male bosses,
rapist and soldiers in war situations and host of others. The research x-rays
role of media in mobilizing Nigeria women for National Development with a focus
on Patience Jonathan Women for Change and Development Initiative (WCDI) .
Quantitative research design was used in which cross-sectional survey method
was adopted while the data collection instrument was questionnaire. 100
administered questionnaires that were administered to respondents selected from
the (WCDI). It is admitted that media provide adequate coverage to women for
change and development initiative which has enhanced women’s participation in
governance and politics. Some of the problems facing women’s participation in
both politics and national development programmes are political violence that
is rocking Nigeria political society, election rigging, cultural factor and
religion factor. It is recommended that the National Assembly as a matter of
state policy should implement Affirmative Action involving the reservation of
30% elective posts for women.
