ABSTRACT
The study examined the role of television in
national development. This study focuses on National Television Authority (NTA)
Asaba. It is a known fact that
television is one of the engines that propel the social and national
development for its continuity and realization through; Information
enlightenment, entertainment and education.
There is no doubt that television remains a powerful tool for social
change in any society. Quantitative research design was used
in which cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data collection
instrument was questionnaire. A critical review to related literature were
made. Relevant theory that was used to gratify the study is uses and gratification
theory. Findings of the study showed that television is the most variable
medium of communication in developing a society. Finally, it is therefore
recommended that the government should provide a powerful transmitter that will
be able to carry messages to the audience in a clear and audible manner.
