ABSTRACT
The
research examined the role of Mass Media in Societal Integration with a focus
on Federal, State and Private Radio Stations in Osun State i.e Gold FM, Ilesha,
Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Osogbo and Unique FM, Ilesha. Findings
showed that broadcasting media, especially Radio Stations have been able to
enhance societal integration which has translated to harmonious relationship
among the towns in Osun State. The researcher adopted survey research
methodology coupled with questionnaires to elicit data from the selected
respondents within the study population area. It is shown that mass media have
been able to achieve social-integration through news reportage, enlightenment
programmes on peaceful co-existence, programme on land disputes and boundary
adjustments and other informative programmes.
