Abstract
The study aims at
examining the role of radio in political participation and mobilization in Uyo,
Akwa Ibom State in 2015 election with a case study of Planet 101.1 FM, Atlantic
104.5 FM and AKBC 90.5 FM. Responses from the respondents indicated that radio
stations in Akwa Ibom played a very crucial role in political awareness,
mobilization, education and in the entire political development especially
during election in the state. It did educate and sensitize masses on various
activities such as registration, how to handle voter’s card, what to wear
during election, how to participate in politic. The researcher adopted survey
research method with 150 copies of questionnaires administered to 150
respondents who were drawn selected and 142 were retrieved. Simple random
sampling technique was also adopted to select respondents. Data analysis of
this research use frequency and percentage method. It was recommended that
broadcast media should be free from few influential politicians avoid turning
the media into tools of propaganda.
